79 houses moved down the Missouri river in 60 days! - (ref 1-033)
The year was 1993 and as fate would have it, this was the year of the flood. When I first took on the job of moving 79 houses from Fort Leavenworth to the Fairfax district of Kansas City, Kansas, I planned on hauling them down the highways. At a meeting at Kansas City city hall, someone joked that the houses could be moved down the river. All present in the meeting laughed but after I looked at a map the idea was no longer funny. It seemed possible. The rest is history. Sand barges equipped with our custom designed draw bridge-ramps became the mode of transportation. Good thing the loading ramp was attached to the barge as the river rose greatly that year. We were very busy in the 1990s and business was bountiful in the area.
When it came to basement repair, Kansas continued to offer work. I recall visiting Manhattan often that year, buying and renting equipment for the big river job. During this busy year of house moving and basement repair, Manhattan, Ks became even more of a favorite to me. With memories of college and small jobs of basement repair, Manhattan, Ks has always been a town where work seemed to become available.
Work has continued on for years since 1993, and other towns thru out central Kansas became areas where new customers were met and serviced. Whether its house moving, house lifting or basement repair, Kansas is where we have established many satisfied customers and we are grateful to all of them. Not all customers had typical requests. Many projects were extra-ordinary, even by house moving standards.
